Jess Hayes & Mike Mayfield
“It’s the way their originals stand up to be counted that really impresses me.” – Blues Enthused
Jess Hayes alongside Mike Mayfield complete a five-piece band delivering powerful, groove-driven blues and soul with a raw, rootsy edge. At the helm is Jess Hayes—a commanding performer whose voice draws comparisons to Bonnie Raitt and Susan Tedeschi—bringing grit, emotional depth, and a magnetic stage presence to every performance. She is also the lead vocalist of Connolly Hayes, a Europe-touring, multi award-nominated band celebrated for its electrifying fusion of soul, blues, and rock.
Jess first emerged on the South London scene as a teenager, shaped by a childhood steeped in classic rock and soul from her musician parents. She quickly built a reputation as one of the most compelling young voices among the blues and soul cognoscenti. More recently, she earned a coveted four-chair turn on ITV’s The Voice.
Emerging on the London scene from the ‘W3 Jam Sessions’ now hosted at Ronnie Scott’s, and joining Jess for this performance, is Mike Mayfield, the lead singer and co-writer for the band and the self titled album that grew out of the those sessions; Bassment Project. One of the highlights of the album features a duet with the late great Betty Wright. After this period he spent time sharing the stage and travelling the world as a musician with acts as diverse as Emeli Sandé, Labrinth, Jamie Cullum, Joss Stone and recently RAYE to name a few. Returning to his own creative instincts, Mike released his debut EP ‘Hard Up’ in 2019.
In the last few years Mike has supported Paloma Faith on a run of UK shows, toured the Netherlands and was included in radio performances live on the Robert Elms and Gabby Roslin BBC Radio shows. He is also included as a featured artist in the live album and theatre show ‘Both Sides Now – Homage to the Songs of Joni Mitchell’.
“…already creating high expectations and excitement within, and beyond, the blues/rock/soul community…” – Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival
