Peggy's Skylight Membership
Why we need help
When we very first started Peggy’s Skylight over 5 years ago we took on an old disused council-owned building on a [edit] 10 year lease, The building had been vacant for many years, and was in need of serious repair. We invested considerable in restoring and repairing the venue to the place we all now know and love. Since then Peggy’s has grown and we are now happy to be employing [edit] x full and part time staff and has gained a reputation for one of the most exciting and valuable Jazz venues in the region, country and further afield. The nature of the building has played it’s part in allowing this to happen.
In January 2023, with little to no notice, we received news that the council now wanted to sell the building and thereby create a very uncertain future for the club, its employees, and its customers. Al lot was up in the air, but we received such overwhelming support from the entire community that the council agreed to retract the proposed sale, and at least reconsider. Again, thank you all so much for your support. At the time many of you wanted to help financially if you could, but without knowing what our options were, and the best way forward, we were unable to come up with a secure plan with such little notice.
Several months on the situation still looms over us, and the Council [edit] may still press ahead with the sale. So we have a plan:
Our plan for the future
Several months on the situation still looms over us, and the Council [edit] may still press ahead with the sale. So we have instigated a plan to help save the building falling into the wrong hands and secure the future of Peggy’s Skylight location and facilities. With your help we hope to set up a trust, and encourage those who can help to take up a shareholding with a view to buying the building ourselves. We understand that not everybody can or may even want to help, and that of those who can, they may wish to help in very different ways. Initially we are looking to raise money in two ways:
– “Shareholders” for those who are able to lend larger amounts of money towards the building purchase goal
– “Peggy’s Membership” Rather than use third party services like gofundme or kickstarter, who take a substantial fee, and impose their own conditions, we’ve decided to set up our in house membership package for those who are able to help with smaller amounts, and would like to receive benefits back.
Become a Shareholder
If you can help Peggy’s with a larger sum to help secure the purchase of the building please contact us here: shareholders@peggysskylight.co.uk We will then contact you with details of how you can help, and what protections are offered, and how our donation/shareholder scheme works.
