Almanaque feat. Camille Bertault
“Camille Bertault is more than merely a sly vocal gymnast; she’s a fine composer and a singer who carefully coaxes the emotional impact out of a melody.” – Downbeat
“The new voice of jazz” – Vanity Fair
Almanaque‘s music is perfect for anyone who loves good music that makes them feel good. Whether you are a fan of Brazilian music, African rhythms, or simply appreciate great music, Almanaque is a must-listen. Their unique sound is both captivating and energizing, transporting listeners to a world of rhythmic beats and soulful melodies.
Their performance here features French jazz vocalist Camille Bertault, widely known for her precise vocal technique and inventive approach to jazz standards and original compositions. A true vocal phenomenon, Camille first gained international recognition as an internet sensation with dazzling videos that showcased her impeccable vocal technique and musicality—including a jaw-dropping interpretation of John Coltrane’s Giant Steps. Since then, she has evolved into one of the most original and dynamic voices on the contemporary jazz scene.
After training at the conservatory, Camille Bertault obtained a classical piano prize, and studied opera, theatre and dance at the Conservatory of Nice. At the age of 20, she wrote, edited and performed in plays for children. Inspired by a father who loves jazz, she studied vocal jazz and improvisation at the Conservatoire de Paris. In 2016, she was spotted by NY label Sunnyside Records, which distributed her first album “En Vie” and introduced her to the New York jazz scene. In 2023, her fifth album « Bonjour Mon Amour » was released on artist collective label “Vita” and she won “Les Victoires du Jazz”
For this performance she will be playing alongside musicians from Almanaque, previous performers here at Peggy’s delivering their own intricate forms of world and Brazilian Jazz, including the renowned trumpeter Quentin Collins.
During a career of over 20 years, trumpeter Quentin has established himself as one of the UK’s top jazz/commercial players. He has performed, toured and recorded with a plethora of internationally renowned artists across many genres including Fred Wesley, Gregory Porter, Mark Ronson, Omar, Basement Jaxx, Roy Ayers, Alicia Keys, Dennis Rollins and Mulatu Astatke.
“A sense of rhythm of stunning precision, infallible correctness, a sensual and laughing phrasing, a jazz culture — and classical — that flourishes at every moment ” – Jazz Magazine
