Peggys House Band with Alan Barnes: Kings of Alto & Baritone Sax
“His stylistic range is quite phenomenal… He has a wonderful capacity for suggesting a given style without actually imitating anyone” – Dave Gelly, Masters Of The Jazz Saxophone
Experience an evening of virtuosic saxophone mastery as we pay tribute to the titans of the alto and baritone saxophones. Channeling the spirits of jazz legends like Charlie Parker, Art Pepper, Benny Carter, Gerry Mulligan, Pepper Adams, and Harry Carney, this special event showcases the extraordinary talents of acclaimed saxophonist Alan Barnes and the Peggy’s House Band.
Renowned for his dynamic and expressive playing, Alan Barnes has established himself as one of the leading saxophonists of his generation. With a deep understanding and reverence for the jazz tradition, Barnes seamlessly blends technical brilliance with soulful interpretation, bringing to life the music of the alto and baritone sax greats.
Joining Barnes on stage is the Peggy’s House Band, a dynamic ensemble of accomplished musicians who share his passion for the rich history of jazz. Together, they will transport the audience on a musical journey, exploring the timeless compositions and improvisational brilliance that have defined the saxophone’s enduring legacy.
From the lightning-fast bebop lines of Charlie Parker to the lush, harmonically-advanced stylings of Gerry Mulligan, the program will showcase the versatility and expressive power of the alto and baritone saxophones. Experience the raw energy, emotional depth, and the sheer virtuosity that have made these saxophonists true masters of their craft.
“Barnes plays music that was radical 50 years ago but he infuses it with so much passion and energy you could believe it was minted on the spot, which is always part of the story with jazz.” – John L. Walters, The Guardian
