“Kim Cypher is a rare musical treasure” – David Freeman Jazz FM
“This is a band capable of appealing to jazz ‘newbies’ and to hardcore aficionados alike” – The Jazz Mann
Kim Cypher is one of the UK’s most exciting and exuberant saxophonists, vocalists and composers renowned for her vivacious style, passionate energy, charismatic stage presence and warm connection with all audiences.
A regular performer on the London and UK jazz circuit, with success of four highly acclaimed albums, award-winning music videos, performance in New York and sell-out shows here at Peggy’s Skylight and at world-renowned Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Kim has firmly secured her reputation as a leading figure in contemporary jazz and a much-loved artist on the UK jazz circuit.
Inspired by the funkier side of jazz and having studied alongside US saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis and internationally acclaimed jazz saxophonist Andy Sheppard, Kim will captivate you in a spellbinding performance, sharing positive energy through her music and audience repartee.
Together with her highly respected band, Kim will perform an eclectic, lively mix of jazz, blues, Latin swing and funky grooves from her new album ‘LIVE and Smiling’. This special night at Peggy’s Skylight launches the release of ‘LIVE and Smiling’ on limited edition vinyl. The album was recorded at two sellout shows here at Peggy’s Skylight back in February together with the band’s recent performance at Cheltenham Jazz Festival. You will be able to grab a signed copy of this fabulous, limited edition live album at the show.
Kim has performed and recorded with some of the country’s finest jazz musicians including Pee Wee Ellis, Ray Gelato, Liane Carroll, David Newton, Ashley Slater, Antonio Forcione, Clem Clempson, Peter Lemer with her regular band personnel including some of the most experienced and respected musicians on the UK jazz circuit who, between them have performed with artists such as Courtney Pine, Ronnie Scott’s Big Band, Curtis Stigers, Jamie Cullum, Sheila Ferguson (the Three Degrees), Paloma Faith, Van Morrison, Osibisa, Monty Alexander, Spike Robinson, James Brown Horns (Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, Pee Wee Ellis), Shirley Bassey…
