Joshua Burnside

“He creates a world and lets us live in it for a while… He’s like going to the theatre” – Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2

“Joshua Burnside is the best songwriter in Ireland right now, and probably beyond” – Phil Taggart, Sirius XM

Singer, songwriter, and producer Joshua Burnside draws inspiration from alternative electronica and Irish folk, skillfully chopping and blending these influences with a mix of found sounds, world music, and unconventional production methods. His third album, The Teeth of Time, was released to critical acclaim at the end of February, quickly establishing itself as one of the most contended folk albums for end-of-year lists.

Sitting comfortably (and confrontationally) between the alt-folk realms of Lankum and John Francis Flynn, The Teeth of Time preserves both the singer-songwriter and traditional folk elements that have been central to his earlier work.

The record follows Burnside’s debut album, Ephrata, which explored lush landscapes, technological horrors, night terrors, and nostalgic Colombian vistas (placed against a backdrop of Irish folk, cumbia rhythms, and electronica), as well as his second album, Into The Depths Of Hell, which embraced a darker approach to blending alt-rock with the folk tradition. It received support from UK and US national radio, alongside acclaim from international tastemakers such as NPR, Guitar
Magazine, CLASH, The Guardian, The Times, and others.

Now, Joshua Burnside joins us in Nottingham for a very special show presented by Peggy’s regular collaborators, Folkroom. Performing an intimate show as a trio, Burnside’s performance is sure to stand alongside his other recent live highlights, including the Cambridge Folk Festival, Glastonbury, and his debut on the legendary Transatlantic Sessions tour in 2024.

Come along and see for yourself why Mark Radcliffe described Joshua Burnside’s live shows as “like going to the theatre… he creates a world and lets us live in it for a while.”
