Peggy’s Spotlight

“The event’s mission is to shine a light on homegrown talent giving them a chance to shine on a stage that feels like home…” – Iulia Teodora Matei, Leftlion

We’re back for another Spotlight event, welcoming early career musicians to the stage! This month, we’re excited to welcome Okapi an exciting collective from Leicestershire brewing a distinctive fusion of sounds and Halta D. a high energy Alt-Jazz group… Expect catchy melodies and infectious grooves!

Okapi

Okapi are an exciting new collective from Leicestershire brewing a distinctive fusion of sounds. Born from weekly jam sessions, their music blends a fiery mix of funk, psychedelia, reggae, afrobeat, and the vibrant energy of the UK’s contemporary jazz scene. Driven by deep, infectious grooves and emotive melodies, Okapi thrive on spontaneity, always leaving space for the unknown and letting improvisation guide the moment.

Having performed at festivals including Nozstock and Barefoot, the band continue to hone their craft and build a reputation for dynamic, high-energy live shows that keep audiences moving with an irresistible feel. Their debut release, Live Session EP, is out now on Spotify, YouTube and all other streaming platforms.

Halta D.

Halta D. is a high energy Alt-Jazz group, reminiscent of bands like Azymuth, Casiopea and Level 42.

Formed by Derby based guitarist, composer and producer Richard Belfitt. The band were put together to bring to life a solo electronic project that began in lockdown which drew from Richard’s diverse range of musical influences from Jazz Fusion to Broken Beat, Post-rock to City Pop. This all came together to produce the album Own Space. The band expands on the album adding elements of improvisation as well as compositions written by Richard for a new album currently in the works. Expect catchy melodies and infectious grooves.
