Peggy’s Spotlight
“The event’s mission is to shine a light on homegrown talent giving them a chance to shine on a stage that feels like home…” – Iulia Teodora Matei, Leftlion
We’re back for another Spotlight event, welcoming early-career musicians to the stage! This month, we’re joined by Floral Pattern the alt-jazz project by saxophonist and composer Myles Noble and Reuben Paterson Trio playing a set of originals and reworked standards performed in a range of jazz, funk and Latin styles.
Floral Pattern
Floral Pattern is the alt-jazz project by saxophonist and composer Myles Noble. Drawing upon a history of self-teaching in the Jazz tradition, and creating new community music spaces in the East Midlands, Floral Pattern blends the raw energy of UK soundsystem culture with the innovation of the contemporary jazz scene. This results in a euphoric, improvisation-heavy performance that is both psychedelic and rhythmically intense.
The project is defined by hard-hitting horn lines, driving Afrobeat and jungle – inspired drums, and bold experiments in live electronic processing. Inspiration is from artists such as Ezra Collective, Moses Boyd, corto.alto and Snarky Puppy. Floral Pattern occupies a space somewhere between a jazz ensemble and a dancefloor.

Reuben Paterson Trio
Reuben Paterson is an exciting young saxophonist who has featured in jam sessions at Peggy’s Skylight, has busked at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, played with Electric Gumbo on stage in Nottingham and at Lincoln Jazz Festival as well as featuring on their It’s On! Album (2023). Reuben won the 11-15 Music category at the Nottingham Young Creatives Awards in 2024-25, with a performance of a piece he wrote and produced. His influences are Sonny Rollins, Kenny Garrett, Roy Hargrove, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter among many. Reuben brings together a trio who last performed at the University of Nottingham’s launch of the AMP Hub, and which features bassist Simon Paterson and Ade Anifowose, a drummer who has performed at previous Spotlight shows, and is now making a name for himself in London. Expect a set of originals and reworked standards performed in a range of jazz, funk and Latin styles.
