Threes Up Organ Trio is a high energy trombone-led organ trio playing a mixture of ferociously swinging standards and adventurous original music written by all members of the group.
Rory Ingham – trombone (British Jazz Awards Rising Star)
Matt Carter – organ
Luke Tomlinson – drums
Rory Ingham, jazz trombonist/educator/composer, is the winner of Rising Star in the 2017 British Jazz Awards. He has played with internationally-acclaimed musicians such as Chris Potter, Dave Holland, and Ingrid Jensen. He has also played with many ensembles including BBC Big Band, Mike Gibbs Big Band, Guy Barker Big Band, Syd Lawrence Orchestra, and London Concert Orchestra. Rory is proud to be endorsed by Michael Rath Trombones, and is the youngest artist on the roster.
Matt Carter has studied piano with some of the country’s finest musicians, including Gwilym Simcock, Nikki Illes and Tom Cawley. He’s toured the country with soul band ‘Lack of Afro’, soul superstars Joss Stone, Beverly Knight, Angelo Starr and Mica Paris, as well as at Ronnie Scotts, The Jazz Cafe, The Pizza Express and The 606 Club.
After studying drums with some of the UK’s finest musicians, such as Matt Skelton, Gareth Lockrane, and Martin France, Luke eventually made the move to London in 2015 to study Jazz Performance at the Royal Academy of Music.
He has, since then, begun to firmly establish himself on the London jazz scene as “a highly-charged, creative and swinging drummer” (Gareth Lockrane) with world-renowned jazz vibraphonist Joe Locke describing him as “an excellent drummer… it was a lot of fun playing with him”.
Luke currently plays regularly with jazz artists such as Claire Martin OBE, Emma Smith (Jazz Now – BBC Radio 3), Ray Gelato (Sir Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams and HM The Queen) and Claire Teal (BBC Radio 2).
