Few musical influences have played such a significant and consistent a role in jazz as those of Latin America. Cubop was the first revelation. It was the hip sound of 1950s New York, as migrant musicians from Cuba and Puerto Rico started playing with the bebop originators. Then, the sounds of samba and bossa nova entered the scene, and a new craze for bossa jazz took over.
Quartet Con Alma derives their name from the Dizzy Gillespie composition ‘Con Alma’. Exploring the breadth of latin jazz, this piano quartet play the music of, and take inspiration from the likes of Horace Silver, Tom Jobim, Sergio Mendes, Chick Corea, The Jazz Crusaders, Tania Maria and Ray Bryant. Whether cooking on ‘Cubano Chant’, relaxing on ‘Poinciana’ or grooving on ‘Come With Me’, this music from the Latin Quarter is always performed Con Alma…’with soul’…
