The Matt Ratcliffe Trio pay homage to one of jazz music’s most original composers and performers, Thelonious Sphere Monk. Matt will tackle some of the staple “Monk" tunes and some lesser known pieces, whilst bringing the trio’s own unique vibe to the occasion

Matt Ratcliffe: Pianist and composer
Matt is a conservatoire educated Jazz pianist, influenced by improvisers such as Thelonious Monk and Paul Bley and conceptualist George Russell, Matt is equally fascinated by rhythmic concepts found in world music as textures and ideas by composers such as Daphne Oram. Matt has long played on the U.K. jazz scene and this is his first original project under his leadership

Simon Paterson: Double Bass, educator and composer, Simon is a senior lecturer at Nottingham University, a performing musician and leader of his own group Angels in the Architecture

Tymoteusz Jozwiak: Drums, Tymek is a big presence on the West Midlands free jazz scene, playing with some of the best up and coming musicians as well as some great established artists such as Paul Dumnall. Tymotuesz is the drummer in Sid Peacock’s Surge
