Jazz Steps are proud to present this exciting quintet for another of their hugely popular livestream events from Peggy’s Skylight, our third in a diverse programme.

AuB (pronounced ORB) perform exciting, fun, groove-laden original UK jazz with an electronic edge. This London ensemble is masterminded by two young saxophonists making huge waves as part of the next generation of virtuosic instrumentalists intent on doing things their way: Tom Barford and Alex Hitchcock.

Usually presented as a quartet, the twin tenors tradition is continued on this special occasion fronting a quintet with bassist Conor Chaplin, drummer James Maddren and synth player Maria Chiara Argirò.

Their music is expansive and progressive, it interweaves cross-rhythms with deft melodies and catchy hooks. The intensity and youthful boldness are contrasted with dynamic nuance and complex interplay, performed throughout with a cutting-edge fluidity. AuB melds contemporary jazz sounds and an adventurous and electronic soundscape with a risk-taking spirit.

“AuB are a twin tenor ensemble ready to make cataclysmic waves in the sound of UK jazz.. “this is adventurous, risk-taking music.” – Jazzwise

“AuB’s compositions are tight and authentic, never self-indulgent… There’s freshness and originality here.” – London Jazz News
