“Inherited tradition is very safe in Alasdair Roberts’ expert hands”Pitchfork

“(Donald WG) Lindsay creates a sparser, more intimate affair… It’s
such a cathartic moment that once the tape ends you immediately needed to flip it over.”The Quietus

Two of Scotland’s most innovative folk talents, Donald WG Lindsay and Alasdair Roberts, come together for a rare show featuring a rich variety of pipe tunes with guitar accompaniment. Peggy’s new monthly folk night, Folkroom, brings critically acclaimed artists to the heart of Nottingham.

Donald and Alastair will bring together a diverse range of influences, from Hungarian and Romanian pipe music to classic and contemporary Highland piping and Lowland, Border and Northumbrian tunes. The songs range from variants (some rare, some more well-known) of traditional ballads or ‘muckle sangs’, to songs from the Scots lyrical tradition from the early modern period onwards, to contemporary songs written by both Alasdair and Donald.

Donald WG Lindsay is not only a Scottish musician and traditional
singer, but also a musical instrument designer and inventor best known for developing the Lindsay System, which doubles the core range of traditional Scottish smallpipes. He is a critically acclaimed artist whose work has appeared across a broad range of projects, including numerous Alasdair Roberts records.

Alasdair Roberts is one of the foremost collaborators in folk music
today. He is a member of The Furrow Collective, unaccompanied voice project Green Ribbons, and has appeared on projects alongside Bill Callahan, Karine Polwart and Lisa Knapp, amongst others. He has been releasing music on cult American label Drag City for over 25 years. His most recent album, ‘Grief in the Kitchen and Mirth in the Hall’, was released year to critical acclaim.

In the company of Donald WG Lindsay and Alasdair Roberts, listeners can expect a thrilling evening in which rare and splendid gems of Scottish musical history and tradition will be brought to life in the hands of two unconventional masters, who invite you to join them in celebrating thirty years of music and friendship!
